Bonfire Night: Take your umbrellas to displays in Leeds and West Yorkshire as rain is forecast

People heading to the six Leeds City Council-organised bonfires and firework displays can expect cold and breezy conditions as well as a band of rain travelling in from the west of England.

Around 70,000 people usually gather at Leeds' biggest free annual bonfire in Roundhay Park's Soldiers Field which will be lit tonight at 7.30pm, while events are scheduled to take place at Bramley Park, Springhead Park, Woodhouse Moor, Middleton Park, and East End Park starting at 7pm.

But it seems umbrellas and wellies are expected to be the order of the day, with rain forecast to hit the area from around 4pm right through until late in the evening.

A Met Office spokeswoman said: "It probably wont start raining properly in Yorkshire until 4pm and the worst of it is out of the way by 9pm.

"It will be cold and wet conditions under foot. It's not as heavy by the time it gets to the east side of the UK but it's still fairly persistent.

"I think you've got to prepare for a wet evening."
