'˜Bold and distinctive' plans for former Yorkshire Post site

An 18-storey apartment complex sloping down to the River Aire could be the future for the former Yorkshire Post office site on Wellington Street.

Developers have now submitted a detailed planning application to Leeds City Council for the build-to-rent waterside scheme.

237 rental apartments are proposed by specialist landlord Grainger PLC in what is one of the city’s first purpose-built tenant-only developments.

Architects Harris Partnership have designed a ‘bold and distinctive’ tower stepped from 18 to 11 storeys as it approaches the river.

Aimed at young professionals, there will be 121 two-bedroom and 116 one-bedroom flats, a rooftop residents’ lounge, restaurant and bar units, basement parking for 72 cars and 140 cycle spaces.

Harris Partnership chairman Paul Mitchell said:

“This is one of the most significant redevelopment schemes in the city centre and a truly exciting opportunity to create a unique and visually arresting residential building on a key gateway location into Leeds.

“Our proposals for the Yorkshire Post site are designed to maximise its land potential whilst delivering a transformational impact at the top of Wellington Street.”

The firm has already been involved in the Thorpe Park and White Rose projects. The application has been submitted with advice from Quod and development managers Fox Lloyd Jones.
