Bogus callers in Leeds pose as police and Neighbourhood Watch officials
Conmen claiming to be police officers and Neighbourhood Watch officials have been targeting residents in Leeds.
Police today issued warned that two men posing as officers had been operating in the Kirkstall area of the city.
A resident had let them into an apartment block but they ran away when challenged.
It comes days after a bogus official stole cash from a 98-year-old woman.
The man had gained entry to her Kirkstall home by claiming to be from Neighbourhood Watch.
There was also a report of a man posing as a police officer in the Whingate area of Wortley earlier this week.
Fortunately, the resident in that case refused entry.
A police spokesman said: “Please be vigilant for elderly relatives and neighbours.
“If you have any concerns regarding validity of any cold caller please check ID or contact the organisation they are purporting to be from before allowing them entry.
“Report anything suspicious using 101 or online unless it’s an immediate threat, then always ring 999.”
