Bid to raise festival funds for Yorkshire Dance

The Leeds-based dance development agency for the region hopes its Spirit of Juncture campaign will drum up funds to stage exceptional dance performances featuring the talents of local people during the event from October 27 to 30.

This is the third time that Yorkshire Dance has staged Juncture, a festival of contemporary dance.

Wieke Eringa, Yorkshire Dance artistic director, said: “We’ve made it fun and easy for people to help to stage these great works of art and we need you. Whether you are a parent, artist, participant, young person or simply interested in new, exciting, radical performance: without your help this work won’t be coming to Leeds. Join us at an event; see us sweat, sing and dance for our money and make something amazing happen in Leeds.”

Dance makers including Swedish artist Sara Lindström, Yorkshire choreographer Lucy Suggate and London-based choreographer Nicola Conibere will be working with 75 members of the public to stage dance and film works at Yorkshire Dance and other venues around Leeds. Quarantine will perform ‘Wallflower’ as part of the festival.

The Spirit Of Juncture campaign will contribute to the cost of bringing these artists to West Yorkshire.

Yorkshire Dance is staging fundraising events including a 24-hour dance relay on July 1 and 2, featuring Yorkshire Dance staff alongside children from its Saturday morning dance classes and professional artists.

An open mic night including live music and comedy on May 27 at the Midnight Bell pub will also raise funds.
