Belle Isle fire: Woman taken to hospital after escaping house fire on Broom Crescent in Leeds

A woman has been taken to hospital with smoke inhalation after escaping a house fire in Leeds.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to a house in Broom Crescent, Belle Isle, at about 11pm on Tuesday.

A fire had started on the ground floor of the property before spreading to the first floor.

One man and one woman had managed to escape the fire before crews arrived.

The woman suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment.

Firefighters from Hunslet and Leeds stations put out the fire using four breathing apparatus, two hose reels and a high powered fan to clear smoke from the house.

A smoke alarm was fitted, but firefighters were unsure if it was set off due to the damage to the house.

A fire investigation officer is investigating the cause of the fire.
