Asda shoppers in hacking danger

Customers at Leeds-based supermarket chain Asda could have had their bank details accessed by hackers, a security expert has claimed.

Information security consultant Paul Moore blogged that he first alerted Asda to a problem in March 2014, warning that customers could be vulnerable to hacking if they had both the supermarket’s website and another site infected with malware open at the same time.

Asda said it had now fixed the problem and no customers had been affected.

A spokesman said Asda had “multiple layers of security in place on our grocery website” and had “implemented a number of changes to our website to improve customer security”.

He stressed that there was no evidence of any customer information being compromised.
