Discount supermarket chain Aldi is recalling its gluten-free pale ale because it contains barley.

The retailer has issued a recall, outlining that its Brasserie Gluten Free Organic Pale Ale actually contains deglutinised barley.

The supermarket says the pale ale is 'a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to barley'.

The full statement says: "As a precautionary measure we are recalling Brasserie Gluten Free Organic Pale Ale (Barcode: 25160208).

"The product contains barley which is not declared on the label, meaning that the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to barley.

"Customers are advised to return the product to their nearest store, where a full refund will be given.

"We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your co-operation."
