Alcohol licence go-ahead for new Leeds conference venue

Well Met is a trio of services being hosted by Leeds Beckett University at Cloth Hall Court on Quebec Street and already has bookings up to 2020 and £700k worth of enquires.

Teach First delegates will be among the first to use the facilities when they return to the city and later in the year the team welcomes the Royal Society of Chemistry for a three-day conference.

At a recent meeting of the city council’s licensing sub committee it was agreed that the venue could also serve alcohol Monday to Sunday between noon and midnight, show films, play live and recorded music and stage plays.

There had been concerns and an objection from a neighbouring business about noise, litter and anti-social behaviour but the authority still approved it, with the condition that events terminate at midnight, all events are pre-booked with a minimum of seven days’ notice, two door supervisors are at events from 9pm until 30 minutes after the end, children should be accompanied by an adult and off the premises by 9pm and the venue would not be hired to a third party.

The grade two-listed building was once a major trading centre for the textile industry in Leeds, between the 18th and 19th centuries.

It has undergone a multi-million refurbishment to create a modern space and displays art work from Leeds Beckett students. Each conference and board room takes inspiration from the building’s heritage - with the names of Tweed Suite, Bobbin Gallery and Cotton Room.
