The six volunteers, aged six to 14, signed up to the Emmaus Big Marathon Month virtual fundraiser at the start of June, then went on to raise £1,200.

Their challenge was to walk, run or cycle the distance of a marathon throughout the month while raising funds for the charity

"The best thing was that we got to raise money for Emmaus to help the people there. Thank you everyone who donated money for it.”

Jacob Cloke, six, from Wortley, was inspired to join in by his dad, who works for the charity.

Jacob said: “I wanted to do the marathon because it’s daddy’s work and I love my daddy. Emmaus helps lots of people and I am a kind boy.”

Donald Forrester, chief executive of Emmaus Leeds, said: “We are extremely grateful to our Big Marathon Month participants and all those who donated to sponsor them.

"With the lockdown restrictions and reduced income, it has been a challenging few months for our charity.

"The much-needed funds raised by these young supporters will directly help formerly homeless people who are members of our community.”
