Christmas and New Year bin collection Leeds 2020: dates black, brown and blue bins are collected over festive period

There will be no bin collections on Christmas and New Year’s Day

With all the eating, drinking and gift-giving over the festive period, you might be wondering how to dispose of all the extra waste.

The Christmas holidays are a time when many services tend to wind down, and bin collection is no different.

Here are the changes to bin collection dates and service provision over the festive period.

Leeds bin collection dates

For some people, bins won’t be collected until two days later than usual, whereas others will have their bin collected the day before their scheduled collection.

Your recycle bin (green) and black waste bin will be emptied on alternating weeks, therefore whichever bin is affected by the dates should be put out on the revised date.

If you are a garden waste bin subscriber, this service only runs from March until November, therefore brown bin collection is not available throughout the festive period.

If your bin collection date is usually a Monday, your bin will be collected on:

Sunday, December 20

Monday, December 28

If your bin collection date is a usually a Tuesday, your bin will be collected on:

Monday, December 21

Tuesday, December 29

If your bin collection date is a usually a Wednesday, your bin will be collected on:

Tuesday, December 22

Wednesday, December 30

If your bin collection date is a usually a Thursday, your bin will be collected on:

Wednesday, December 23

Thursday, December 31

If your bin collection date is a usually a Friday, your bin will be collected on:

Thursday, December 24

Monday, January 4

Will I be able to recycle?

You can visit Leeds City Council recycling centres by appointment, booked via their website.

In line with coronavirus restrictions, you must:

- use the car you booked with

- bring proof of booking if you visit on a bicycle with trailer

- be a Leeds resident

- ensure only one adult leaves the car to unload the vehicle. However, with permission an additional person can help with a heavy item

- ensure children remain in the car at all times with seatbelts fastened

- keep your car windows closed

- stay 2 metres apart from other people

- not leave your car until parked in a bay

When will normal service begin again?

Normal bin collection services will begin again on Monday, 4 January 2021.
