What to do with all that excess rubbish?

Whether it’s an abundance of shredded wrapping paper, a growing pile of food scraps following an epic Christmas dinner or a multitude of Christmas cracker tat that nobody’s actually going to play with, you can find your bins groaning under the pressure in no time at all.

Add to that the fact that the waste and recycling collectors of Leeds need their hard-earned holiday rest too, and things can really start to pile up.

So just when are the bins going to be collected in Leeds this Christmas?

With days off, bank holidays and the odd festive hangover to shift, the usual collection dates are often shifted around by a few days to accommodate, and this year it’s no different.

The following applies to all residents under the jurisdiction of Leeds City Council, and affects the collection of green and black bins; your collection day has likely been moved a day forward or back, depending on when your ‘normal’ day falls.

The council has advised residents to put their bins out before 7am on collection day, and to take their bins back off the road or the pavement on the same day, once they’ve been emptied.

If you need to get rid of waste and recyclable items faster, you can do so at any of the recycling centres across Leeds from 8am until 4pm, apart from on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
