West Park Lounge review: Here’s what I thought of relaxing, all-hours, north Leeds café

If you happen to find yourself in Far Headingley or West Park, there is arguably no better time to stop in for a bite to eat at the autumnal West Park Lounge.

At this time of year the café, which is situated on the left-hand side as you climb up towards West Park on Otley Road, is neatly positioned beside a large tree whose sunburnt leaves provide a picturesque setting to enjoy breakfast, lunch, a drink to warm yourself or something in between.

The café offers a choice of indoor or outdoor seating, the latter more suitable in more favourable temperatures, however the interior retains a comfortable, sitting room feel.

West Park Lounge’s menu is vast and while there are few frills in terms of presentation, certainly on the breakfast menu I sampled, the quality and size of portions are more than ample.

Upon entering the café, staff were attentive and flexible on seating preferences, and despite a busier than expected late breakfast/early lunchtime crowd, I was not left waiting long before my order was taken.

West Park Lounge also offers a take-out service which, if stopping by for something as simple as a breakfast butty, is perfect for those on a Saturday or Sunday morning dog walk.

The restaurant/café hardly boasts a plush dining experience but does not purport to offer anything other than a relaxing place to enjoy a meal at any hour of the day, which it delivered on my visit.

The depth of its menu means the café is more than capable of catering to the vast majority of patrons with specific dietary requirements – and even fussy eaters, who may be less willing to try the more specialist dishes on offer at West Park Lounge.

Complete with a well-stocked bar, the Lounge is an appropriate eatery day or night, particularly for those living within walking distance whose alternatives are at least a 15-minute walk into the centre of Headingley.
