The Kirkgate bar and cafe that welcomes pooches and people alike to enjoy its craft beer will now be expanding its alcoholic offerings to include cocktails.

From raspberry and coconut daiquiris to amaretto sours, Wapentake's exotic cocktails can now be enjoyed alongside its Yorkshire-brewed craft beer, pizza, toasties and pasties.

Each month the bar will sport a new ‘cocktail of the month’ and its Instagram followers will be invited to enter into a competition to name the fancy cocktail with a chance to win a free one.

To begin the cocktail bonanza, this weekend you can get your sweet and sour fix with Wapentake’s melon sour - with the winning name ‘You Absolute Melon’.

Co-owner Lily Prescott, 24, says she wants to involve her customers as much as possible in the running of the bar.

She told the YEP: “Ultimately we want to do what customers want so by involving them in cocktail naming they can feel like they’re a part of the bar.

“It’s a way of keeping things fun, and adding something a little bit different while still keeping in with our reputation of being a craft beer bar.”

Miss Prescott only took over the co-ownership of Wapentake at the start of November last year, so this is the first time she has had the chance to open the venue due to restrictions.

She said: “It’s been so nice to get to know our customers and opening has been crazy, busy and really fun.

“We’ve had a really good response and every single customer who has visited us outdoors so far has been complementary in saying how nice it is to be back.

“I just can’t wait now for when we can open indoors because our outside area isn’t that big so we’ll be able to welcome more people and get more of our staff back."

Miss Prescott added: “In what has been a really crazy and really busy time for everyone, our cocktails are a great new addition to Wapentake.”
