Here are the 10 Leeds restaurants that are currently recommended by the Good Food Guide 2023, and what experts had to say about them.
7. OWT
OWT cafe in the Corn Exchange, owned by Esther Miglo, is rated 'good' in the Guide. Experts said: " ‘Big bad boy’ bhaji butties spiked with aji verde (green sauce) and garlic mayo are one of the hits, along with fried chicken, split-pea dhal with flatbread and poached coley with cherry tomatoes, garlic sauce, rye bread and basil vinaigrette. To finish vegan custard topped with strawberries is a seasonal delight." Photo: Simon Hulme
8. Ox Club
Ox Club in Headrow House, a modern British restaurant, is rated 'good'. Experts said: "Will Campbell took over as head chef in 2022, and carries forward Ox Club's take on modern British brasserie food, driven by sound populist instinct and substantial portions. The aromas of fire-grilling and roasting that emanate from the kitchen are enticing indeed, and might presage the arrival of a darkly crusted breast and drumstick of guinea fowl, adorned with charred sweetcorn, smoked truffle and herb oil." 9. Salvo's
Salvo's in Headingley has been run by the Dammone family since 1976 - pictured is co-owner Gip Dammone - and the Italian restaurant is rated 'good' in the Guide. Experts said: "The carefully wrought traditional cooking is full of upstanding flavours and the refreshing simplicity of approach that everybody loves. Pizza variations will inspire, and you can't go much more native than finishing with chocolate and almond caprese cake with amaretti crumb, amaretto-laced chocolate sauce and stracciatella ice cream." 10. Tharavadu
Keralan restaurant Tharavadu in Mill Hill is rated 'good'. Experts said: " In the warm embrace of hospitable staff, everybody feels welcome, and the kitchen hits one highlight after another. Reporters dream of the meen koottan, a classic coastal fish curry replete with Keralan seasonings and kokum mangosteen, best ordered with house paratha." Photo: Simon Hulme
11. Zucco
Italian restaurant Zucco in Meanwood, run by the Leggiero brothers, is rated 'good'. Experts said: "With brother Michael overseeing proceedings, the kitchen turns out kindly priced Italian small plates and sharing dishes with bags of personality and all the right accents. Pizzette and pastas are always a good shout – perhaps spaghetti with polpette or baccala (salt cod) ravioli with sage and white wine – but other items also catch the eye." Photo: James Hardisty
