The Myrtle Tavern Meanwood review - a surefire contender for the best beer garden in Leeds to watch Euro 2020

Acquiring the pub fully himself in 2016, a huge amount of investment has been put back into it, with the Myrtle becoming a hub for charity events and community projects.

During Covid, the pub stepped up its community focus, even offering a befriending service to regulars who may have been feeling lonely in lockdown.

Giving to the community also meant the community were only too willing to support the pub in its times of need.

A crowdfunder launched earlier this year to help the Myrtle when its was forced to close in lockdown three raised a staggering £10,000 in just over 50 days.

And as a pub they're not standing still, taking advantage of Euro 2020 to maximise their sizeable outdoor space and encourage more customers to discover this hidden gem.

The Myrtle is offering benches of six in front of its 5x3m screen for £60 for upcoming England games - guaranteeing you a table with a good view for several hours, with 12 bottles of beer thrown in.

Ordering is done via the QTap app. It takes a little bit of setting up, but once you've entered your details the process of ordering drinks is fast and easy.

Thankfully, the Myrtle has a great range of beers on tap, ranging from Ossett Yorkshire Blonde and Timothy Taylor's Boltmaker, to Blue Moon and Birra Moretti.

The Coors Light bottles that came with the table aren't to my normal tastes, but I happily drank them anyway.

Feeling positive and a little celebratory with England already having qualified for the knock-out stages, I opted for one of the more expensive options, Beavertown Brewery's Neck Oil (4.3 per cent / £5).

It's punchy, hoppy - and right up my street.

At the end of the game, a friendly member of the bar staff offered a chance to go into the Myrtle's marquee on account of our table's good behaviour.

It looks great inside and with fairy lights and floral decorations abound, Instagram-worthy if that's your thing

Toasting England's win, I enjoyed a smooth pint of Kirkstall Brewery's Three Swords (4.5 per cent / £3.90) to finish off the night.

The Myrtle is going from strength to strength under Scott Westlake's leadership.
