The Euros are playing an important role in the social lives and well-being of people as much as it is a boost to the pub trade as supporters flock to watch games with fellow fans.

The delayed 2020 tournament, which is being played at locations around the world, comes just weeks after pubs, bars and hospitality venues were allowed to open to customers inside.

Pub businesses in Leeds say the two combined have definitely led to an increase in trade, but along with the roll-out of the vaccine programme it has also provided a focus for getting people out of the house and socialising again.

The Peacock pub is opposite the Elland Road stadium and is renowned for being a firm fan's favourite ahead of Leeds United home games and is looking forward to fans coming in tonight to watch England s third game of the campaign so far against the Czech Republic.

"Any sort of event that we can get people coming in is good and getting a bit more back to normal than before, the more vaccinated people there are, people are getting more confident about coming out."

MoJo Bar has several sites, including Merrion Street in Leeds and Harrogate, which is showing games on its roof terrace.

Managing director, Martin Greenhow said: "People are desperate to interact with one another, to have some social contact. This gives a focus for it. I am a football fan myself and it has been hard not being able to see Leeds in the Premier League, so it is good that we can congregate, albeit social distanced, but have that social interaction and hopefully euphoria.

"It has definitely been a boost for business. That said, if we did not have restrictions it would have been a much bigger boost because we are limited to the number of people we can get in."

Football fans from across the city won't be the only ones tuning in to Tuesday night's action. Well-known for being a football fan, Prince William is also expected to be at Wembley said Kensington Palace.

The Duke of Cambridge will join football fans at the stadium to watch the England team play their final group match of the European Championship, Kensington Palace has said.

As president of the Football Association, the duke has taken a keen interest in England manager Gareth Southgate's team and the progress of the other home nations.
