I visited this ‘hidden’ Leeds pub with cheap pints, arcade games and a very different atmosphere

Two pints for under £10 is not a bad deal these days

Crowd of Favours is one of those pubs that seems to quietly get on with things while the city centre shifts and reshapes around it.

Situated just off Kirkgate, it has become an unlikely refuge in recent years – though not entirely by choice.

Opened on Harper Street in 2013, Crowd of Favours stands apart from its neighbour and fellow Cameron Brewery pub, Lamb & Flag, with a more laid‑back approach.

And with much of Kirkgate and Harper Street closed off following a building collapse almost two years ago, it now carries the charm of a place you stumble upon rather than seek out.

Step inside and the bar sits straight ahead, framed by three spacious rooms filled with seating.

Instead of television screens, you’ll find stacks of board games, books, artwork and posters for upcoming events - a welcome break from the many sports bars in the city centre.

I visited twice within a few days. The first was a Thursday evening, after dinner at a busy restaurant, when my guest and I were looking for somewhere calmer.

On a quieter night, service at the bar is instant.

The beer selection includes plenty of Leeds Brewery favourites, and instead of my usual Leodis Lager, I opted for the Craft Lager - new to me and a pleasant surprise.

Paired with my guest’s pint of Aspall, the round came to just £9, a rare bargain for the city centre.

After a quick look at the small beer garden, we headed downstairs, where Crowd of Favours hides a few playful extras.

The room is clearly geared towards private hire, but on a slow evening it becomes a bonus hangout.

We spent a while testing our skills on the arcade machines: a classic Pac‑Man and a pinball table that proved far more competitive than expected.

Our second visit, on a Sunday early afternoon, painted a different picture.

The rooms were packed with chatty groups waiting for their Sunday lunch, yet getting served remained quick and easy.

This time, the same drinks cost £12.10 – still reasonable for its location, though worth keeping an eye on offers.

Crowd of Favours may sit slightly off the beaten track for now, but that only adds to its appeal.

It’s a warm, easygoing pub that works just as well for a quiet midweek pint as it does for a lively weekend catch‑up.
