When this small restaurant in Scissett opened its doors after refurbishment and a new name, it was keeping the legacy of Valentino Peverello alive.

Valentino came from Imperia a coastal city in Italy and opened a restaurant at Main Street, Bingley, 30 years ago – called Valentino’s. A Valentino’s at The Mount, York, followed a number of years later.

Valentino himself lost his life during the pandemic but Alberto and his family are continuing to run the businesses as he did himself – as family-friendly local restaurants where good food, good company and good value are paramount.

The latest addition to the Valentino family is a 100-seat restaurant in 145 Wakefield Road, Scissett, which is already proving a hit with customers.

Food for the soul

Valentino said that eating was ‘Cobo per L’anima’ - “food for the soul”. Good food takes time to cook, fresh ingredients and cooking to order, mean a much more authentic taste.

The menu has a wide choice of anti-pasti (starters), meat, fish and poultry dishes, fresh homemade pasta dishes and pizzas. The emphasis is on quality and fresh ingredients to give richness to the flavours and tastes.

You can also accompany your meals with fine wines with a wide choice of regional Italian wines as well as New World and European vintages. There are sparkling wines and Champagnes too, of course, for those family celebrations and special moments.

Attention to detail comes not only in the cooking, but in the atmosphere, the surroundings and the service. Whether you’re a large group enjoying a celebration, or a couple having a romantic supper, Valentino’s promise you’ll be treated the same, with the same attentive service and great tasting food.

What you say about Valentino’s

You don’t have to take their word for it – the customers who have tried the restaurants, and tasted the food, should know. Here’s some of their comments.

“Exceptional food, exceptional service. We will return to this little gem of a restaurant, and recommend it highly,” said Paul, who gave the Scissett eatery five stars.

Tracey gave the York restaurant five stars too saying: “Nice selection of Italian wines and more. Filleto al Pepe the best I’ve ever had! Full range of fresh fishes and homemade pasta – what more can you wish for? Staff very attentive but not interrupting.”

And another five-star reviewer, Richard, said recently of the Bingley restaurant: “Great Food, Great staff, great time had by all!... very good staff who took care of our every need.”

Family values

As a family concern Valentino’s say they can absorb some of the increasing costs – taking less out of the business for themselves and working harder. Unlike large chains with huge overheads, they say as small restaurants they can keep control of prices and ensure their food remains good value and affordable for their customers.

With delicious starters and pasta dishes and pizzas customers are getting authentic food at reasonable prices, say Valentino’s.

And they are committed to giving good service as well as good value – saying it is their passion and their pleasure.
