Christmas dining: Corporate event, work meal out or family gathering, try this award-winning Leeds restaurant

Tharavadu has been a favourite in Leeds since it opened in 2014 where it aimed to bring truly authentic south-Indian food to the table, cooked and presented in way that blended tradition with modernity.

The restaurant, close to the station and right in the city centre at Mill Hill, has had Michelin recommendations six years running – the only Indian restaurant in Leeds to be included in the 2019 Michelin Restaurant Guide - and a multi-award winner in the Yorkshire Post’s Oliver awards as well as being a Trip Advisor favourite for UK Indian food restaurants, in the top 100 Squaremeal restaurants in the UK, BBC Good Food Guide and many more accolades.

There’s no wonder it’s the go-to place for Bollywood royalty and cricketing heroes as well as those who live and work in and around Leeds. It’s not just the exquisitely-presented food and fantastic flavours that draw people here time and again, but the ambiance, the impeccable service, and the authenticity of its people, chefs and food.

The chefs are born and brought up in Kerala, honing their craft for traditional Keralan cooking – beautifully flavoured curries including seafood and many vegetarian options, breads and dosa. Dishes come beautifully served – like the seafood wrapped and cooked in banana leaves and steamed to perfection; the crunchy and delicious lentil donuts or the dosa – fragrant and delicately spiced curries wrapped in light pancakes. There are easy lunchtime set dishes and an a la carte menu – but for the next two months there will also be a special festive choice.

The special festive menu is available from November 1 to December 23 and includes various options from a two-course lunch at £31.95 per person to a four-course dinner at £39.95 pp.

Starters include Uzhunnu Vada (Lentil doughnuts),Thakarppan Kozhi (Chicken), Meen Chuttathu (Grilled Fish) and Chilli Prawns

Whilst the mouthwatering main courses include Meen Koottan (Fish); Kerala Kozhu Curry (Chicken); Aadu Cheera Mappas (Lamb); Tharavadu Seafood Curry; Kozhi Kurumulag (Chicken); Mutter Paneer; Koottu Curry (Mixed Veg Curry); Vazhuthananga Curry (Aubergine).

With desserts like Semiya Payasam (Vermicelli Pudding), Mango Kulfi and Pista Kulfi

The restaurant, at 7-8 Mill Hill, Leeds, LS1 5DQ, can seat up to 150 people – 70 on the ground floor with 80 seats upstairs on the first floor. Corporate bookings are very welcome and companies can take over the whole restaurant or just one floor.

The upstairs can be easily self-contained and has its own bar and toilets. You can add drinks to the set price if you wish or let people order and pay for their own – with a range of delicious alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, including cocktails, there’s something for everyone. Normally the restaurant is open for lunches and then evenings but, during this Christmas period you can book for any time of the day – if you want a works dinner at 3pm or 4pm that can be done.
