Michael O'Hare's Man Behind the Curtain retains its Michelin star, which it received it 2015 just one year after opening. The Vicar Lane restaurant is the only Leeds restaurant at the moment to have a Michelin star. However, eight other restaurants in the city have been recognised as serving good food. The 'Michelin Plate' award is for restaurants who do not have a star or Bib Gourmand but have been recognised by judges for their quality of their dishes.
7. Dakota Grill
A Michelin Guide judge described Daktoa Grill, in Russell Street, as: "Make your way to the Dakota hotel’s elegant cocktail bar before heading down to the moody basement restaurant. The room is divided into a series of spaces, which adds to the intimacy. Appealing, carefully thought-out menus keep Yorkshire provenance at their heart and dishes have a playful element."
8. The Owl
A Michelin Guide judge described The Owl, in the Fish & Game Row, Kirkgate Market, as: "This sweet, intimate pub – named after its city’s symbol – is the first in the famous Kirkgate Market for 150 years. The concise menu offers snacks and seasonal dishes with a strong local ethos; expect tasty British classics and nursery puddings, along with plenty of locally brewed ales."
9. Black Market
A Michelin judge described Black Market, in Stainbeck Lane, as: "A pleasant city suburb is home to this bright, modern bistro run by a cheerful owner. The menu is a mix of small plates – some familiar and others offering something a little different – and cooking is honest and full of flavour. Come at the weekend for brunch; on Sundays they play old vinyl at lunch."
