Lambert's Bar and Cookhouse Review: Hot for Horsforth as summer season sets in

The concept of after work drinks may have taken a nose dive over the last year for many city centre bars leaving the suburbs space to step in.

Horsforth is one of the most popular places to live for those wanting city centre lifestyles away from the hustle and bustle. With that comes bars, restaurants, cafes and delis upping their game to cater for that market - and Lambert's on the heart of Horsforth's high street is no different.

Over recent years, craft beer houses, gin gardens and cocktail bars have added themselves to the traditional pub offer in Horsforth and having not tried this one before we decided that, yes while it might only be Monday, we would make the most of the balmy evenings and take a stroll there.

While cherry blossoms may adorn the outside, the interior decor is in keeping with what you would find in a trendy city drinking spot.

Lambert's Bar and Cookhouse, Horsforth.

From booths with plush velvet seats, to high stools, tiles and strong greys and greens, to an area designated for dining and a statement bar - there seems to be a lot packed into Lambert's, but it works, and makes for a good atmosphere even if Monday isn't the busiest of evenings.

We chose a table and straight away bar staff brought over drinks menus which covered spirits, wine, fizz, liqueurs, beers on draught or bottle and a particularly extensive gin list with the usual ones such as Mason's Yorkshire, Monkey 47 and Opihr and an array of fruity flavours from Whitley Neil along the lines of Pink Cherry, Blackberry, Lemongrass and Ginger and Elderflower.

I was very tempted by an Elderflower gin but also tempted by the cocktail list which was handwritten so perhaps may be changeable but on this visit consisted of Aperol Spritz, Daquiri, Espresso Martini, Negroni and a Pink Gin Martini.

When I asked what was in it, the bar staff said it was on draught and I could try a sample. I thought this was a nice touch, and so was the drink, so I promptly ordered one of those while the other half opted for a pint of Beavertown Neck Oil.

When the drinks came the Pink Gin Martini looked like an instagram post and the beer was in the most cheerful pint glass I have ever seen. The beer was light, fruity, tangy and smooth while the cocktail ticked all the boxes for appearance, taste and alcohol content.

There is also a simple bar snacks menu that goes beyond a packet of crisps.

It would have been a shame to have walked a couple of miles just for the one drink so decided to have an Aperol was on offer, two for £12 - go on then.

Overall, a bar as good as you would find in the city but with a more laid back local vibe, and dog friendly - I doubt this will be the last visit.
