In Pictures: Leeds City Square transforms for African and Caribbean Food Fest 2026

Sizzling street food, live steelpan music, and a pop-up carnival parade take over City Square today for the Bank Holiday celebration

City Square has been transformed into a celebration of culture, rhythm, and flavour today as the African and Caribbean Food Fest 2026 took over the heart of Leeds.

Running throughout the day, the free-entry event coincided with the build-up to the Leeds West Indian Carnival under this year's official theme: "Living Square, Rooted in Harmony."

Visitors to City Square can expect a massive lineup of authentic street food traders serving up traditional favourites, alongside live cultural entertainment, thanks to the team at Nubian Noire Events.

Yorkshire Evening Post photographer Steve Riding went down to capture some of the sights and sounds (sadly no smells) at this year’s festival.
