Breakfast in Leeds has become a popular weekend treat for many, offering a chance to indulge in delicious helpings of syrup-drizzled pancakes or a hearty fry-up, washed down with a coffee or alcoholic tipple. Here we round up some of the best restaurants and cafes in the city, and what's on their menu:

The revamped outdoor terrace with cover and heaters make this Headingley restaurant a popular breakfast spot. Breakfast is served until noon and the menu is split into eggs, traditional, pancakes and sandwiches.The traditional breakfasts include the finest, locally sourced produce and are served with toast, while pancakes are cooked to order with homemade toppings.

For a luxurious start to your day, The Fourth Floor Brasserie offers stunning views over Leeds with dishes that showcase Yorkshire produce. Bill’s is housed in the beautiful Albion Place near Trinity Leeds shopping centre. It’s spread across two floors and breakfast is served until 11.30am. The toasted sourdough with hummus, smashed avocado, spinach, roasted plum tomatoes, mushrooms and mixed seeds is a stand-out vegan dish.

4. Wapentake
This dog-friendly cafe and bar in Kirkgate serves a range of hearty breakfast dishes, including a Yorkshire take on beans on toast with Henderson’s relish, a vegan breakfast hash and breakfast butties. But they had us at Breakfast Yorkshire Puddings - with baked eggs, crispy bacon bits and Henderson’s relish.

5. Cosy Club
Open from 9am, Cosy Club is perfectly located for a bite to eat before some shopping at Trinity Leeds. The brunch menu is served until 5pm and includes Huevos Rancheros, Bubble & Squeak and Shakshuka - as well as British classics like the Cosy Club breakfast with all the trimmings.

6. Laynes Espresso
This cafe in New Station Street is renowned for its coffee, but serves delicious food to accompany it, too. Breakfast is served all day and the menu includes granola and yoghurt, breakfast muffins, black pudding hash and lots of tasty bakery goods.
