Halloween isn’t complete without a spooky looking pumpkin sitting on your doorstep, so why not take the family to pick out your very own from a pumpkin patch?

These are some of the best places in Yorkshire to go pumpkin picking - plus all the info about booking tickets and Covid-19 precautions.

Green Lane Farm, Green Lane, Hudswell, Richmond, North Yorkshire, DL11 6DA

At Peepo Pumpkin’s Patch, there are thousands of pumpkins to choose from, with wheelbarrows and trolleys ready for you. At Peepo’s Barn, pumpkin carving and other crafts are also available.

The Peepo staff will also be on hand to offer help and advice on the best types of pumpkins for carving, eating - or both.

You can book your tickets on the Peepo Pumpkin’s Patch website - tickets cost £2 for adults, and under 16s go free when accompanied by an adult per group. There is no additional charge for parking.

The booking site says that sessions are one hour, but the website clarifies that entrance times are staggered due to Covid-19, but you may stay for as long as you like upon entry.

Piglets Adventure Farm, York

Towthorpe Grange, Towthorpe Moor Lane, York, YO32 9ST

Pick your own pumpkins every day from 24 October to 1 November at Piglets Adventure Farm.

The farm is giving away a free pumpkin to every full paying child aged one and over - walk to the pumpkin patch and pick your very own homegrown pumpkin with over 10,000 to choose from, in all kinds of different sizes and colours.

While you’re there, check out the Pumpkin Carving Tent, Mysterious Maze, Autumn Outdoor Adventure park and say hello to the animals big and small on the farm.

You can book your tickets on the Piglets Adventure Farm website. Adult tickets cost £9.95, child tickets (1-16 years) cost £12.95, and that comes with a free pumpkin. Concession tickets are £8.95 and children under one year old go free.

Spilmans Farming, Thirsk

Church Farm, Sessay, Thirsk, YO7 3NB

Found in the middle of the family-run farm is Spilmans magnificent pumpkin patch, with more than 40,000 pumpkins in the field.

Covid-19 precautions on the farm include compulsory hand washing, hand sanitising stations and social distancing measures.

Other available activities on the farm include the carving barn, the Maize Maze, the corn cannon, tractor rides, bale mountain and a variety of fairground rides.

You can book your tickets on the Spilmans Farming website. Tickets are £10 per car, not per person. Your tickets will then act as a voucher that permits you £10 credit you can use to pay for your activities during your visit.

Humble Bee Farm, Scarborough

Humble Bee Farm Flixton, Scarborough, North Yorkshire, YO11 3UJ

Running from 24 October to 1 November, Humble Bee Farm invites you to come visit its pumpkin patch and Halloween trail.

You can pick your own pumpkin, carve it and take it on an exciting walk around the Halloween Nature Trail. Dogs are welcome, but must stay on a lead at all times.

You can book a morning slot from 10am to 12pm, or an afternoon slot from 1pm to 3pm.

Tickets are available to book via the Humble Bee Farm website. They cost £7 per child and come with a free pumpkin.

Horsforth Pick Your Own, Leeds

West End Lane, Horsforth, Leeds, LS18 5ES

The farm planted over 37,000 pumpkins this year, made up of 10 different varieties, including mini munchkins to classic giant orange ones.

Masks and face coverings may also be required for certain activities, so you should come prepared just in case.

Other Covid-19 measures include a one way system, hand sanitiser stations and social distancing rules.

You can book your tickets online on the Horsforth Pick Your Own website. Tickets cost £2 each for adults, £1 each for children and kids under three years old go free.

The Pumpkin Patch Produce, Driffield

Homeland Farm, Catfoss Road, Bewholme, Driffield, YO25 8DX

The Pumpkin Patch Produce was established 10 years ago in 2010, with 0.25 acres of land hand planted with one thousand pumpkin plants. In 2016, the farm hosted its first pick your own event which was a huge success, leading to continued pick your own events over the years.

This year, the farm will be open from 11am to 3pm, from Saturday 24 to Saturday 31 October, for you and your family to pick your own pumpkins.

There is no need to pre-book for the pick your own days, however pre-booking is required if you wish to attend the pumpkin carving sessions.

Farmer Copleys, Pontefract

The Copley family has been farming for over 140 years, starting with Grandma Rachel in North Featherstone with just a pig and a cow. The farm as we know it now opened in 2003, and now offers all kinds of events - like the pick your own pumpkin sessions in October.

This year, the farm planted over 130,000 pumpkins in every shape, size and colour imaginable, meaning you’ll definitely be able to find the perfect pumpkin for you and your family.

NHS/Bluelight workers can get tickets for free, off-peak tickets are £2 and peak tickets are £4. Children aged three and under go free. You can buy tickets from the Farmer Copleys website.

Cannon Hall Farm, Barnsley

Cannon Hall Farm, Cawthorne, Barnsley, S75 4AT

Cannon Hall Farm first opened its doors on Good Friday, in 1989 and since then has become an award-winning farm and a must-see Yorkshire attraction. One of the most popular events is the farm’s pick your own pumpkin days.

Due to Covid-19, the farm has introduced a number of measures to protect everyone, such as closing some of its facilities, compulsory face coverings in enclosed areas and hand sanitising stations.

All paying children get a free pumpkin. Additional pumpkins are available to purchase, but you’ll need to buy a pumpkin voucher in advance.

You can book your tickets on the Cannon Hall Farm website - just be sure to select days that are highlighted orange if you’re looking to pick pumpkins. Tickets start from £6.95 per person.

Bert’s Barrow Pumpkin Patch, Leeds

Austfield Ln, Hillam, Leeds, LS25 5NQ

Bert’s Barrow is a small, family fun farm which spans across generations in the village of Hillam in North Yorkshire. The farm was originally started by Marlene and Ian ‘Bert’ Thompson, where they sold locally sourced seasonal vegetables to raise money for the village defibrillator fund.

Since then, the farm has grown and has become a favourite family attraction, with pumpkin picking a highly anticipated event every October.

You do not have to book tickets to attend Bert’s Barrow Pumpkin Patch, just turn up and pay for what you pick. Prices start at £2 per pumpkin and £4 per child into the activity barn.

Yorkshire Pumpkins, York

Another highly popular pumpkin patch in Yorkshire is at Yorkshire Pumpkins. Theis year, due to Covid-19, the patch has introduced an online ticketing system to keep numbers under control.

The patch is open every day from 22 October to 31 October, from 10am to 4pm.

The farm recommends bringing wellies, gloves and a camera to capture all your pumpkin picking memories.

Tickets cost £1, and everyone attending the patch must have a ticket except for babies in arms. The £1 will then be taken off the price of your pumpkins. Pumpkin prices vary from £1 to £9 depending on the size.
