Fireworks are a year-round businesses and Yorkshire is leading the way in designing the most spectacular displays

The business prides itself on being far more than a firework retailer. Even before they think of selling something a lot of work goes into developing their products.

The design process all takes place in Bradford and is overseen by the Health and Safety Executive, who licence everything the company sells across the UK.

Javed Iqbal, from Big Shotter Fireworks, said: “We been around for four years and now have more than 65 unique fireworks for sale – we are by no means a fly by night operation. We design everything ourselves and then have them made in China – we think there is nowhere better to have them manufactured as there is so much expertise there.

“Asian weddings in Bradford are a huge thing and our experience of them has led us to develop some of our own unique products such as Mehndi Madness, Shaadi Mubarak and Baraat. We can basically sell a show in a box – light it once, stand back and enjoy a spectacular one-to-four minute display. The wedding photographer has some great shots, the guests are amazed and the happy couple are even happier.”

And it is not just weddings. The team at Big Shotter Fireworks have put on displays for the Bradford Bulls rugby league team, as well as supplying corporate events, parties as well as small family gatherings.

Javed said: “Fireworks used to be around November to New Year but nowadays people can have them all year-round. We are one of very few companies licenced to sell for the 12 months of the year and take the safety of fireworks very seriously.” That means everything is licenced, right down to the delivery drivers who are specially trained to handle and transport pyrotechnics.

Javed is hopeful for a very bright future, and not just on the sky: “Initially, we sold small fireworks for the public to enjoy in their back gardens through small ads in the local newspapers. Today, we are one of Yorkshire’s leading suppliers of fireworks, whilst still continuing to be family-owned.

“From our humble yet very enthusiastic beginnings all those years ago the team have matured into a fabulous collection of experts all eager to please.

“We are not just a retailer, we are a growing brand – many of our products are only available through us because we make them ourselves.”
