Residents came together on Headingley Terrace to celebrate its 150 years of the street being built with locals dressing up in Victorian costumes to mark the occasion. This was Leeds in July 1997, a month which featured a very muddy Opera in the Park at Temple Newsam Park and a newly-installed 'unsittable seat' proved a talking point among passers-by in the city centre. 7. Leeds in July 1997

Leeds Rhinos beat Adelaide Rams at Headingley in the World Club Championship. The game included a never-to-be-forgotten try by Paul Sterling that covered 110m from a restart.
Martin Dominique, who sang as Mario Lanza on ITV show Stars In Their Eyes, entertained onlookers with a few popular Italian songs before officially opening new Italian restaurant 'Bella Pasta' on Briggate. Martin samples a taste of Italian cooking after his work.
