Big Jack and the Whites won promotion in 1955/56 back to Division One after nine years in the wilderness of the Second Division. The class of 56 proved to be a resolute one. Leeds owed much of the glory to the powerful play of John Charles who scored 28 goals in the final 28 games. And Jack Charlton played the final 34 matches proving his enormous potential as a reliable and dependable defender.
