Having finished second in the league and runners up in the Inter Cities Fairs Cup the previous season the 1966/67 campaign again proved a case of so close yet so far. This time the Whites finished fourth in the league, reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup and lost the final of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup over two legs against Dinamo Zagreb.
