The striker's hat-trick against Tottenham Hotspur under the floodlights at Elland Road in August 1992 proved to be the first of the new Premier League era. Goals from Rod Wallace and Lee Chapman completed a 5-0 win. It was a result which helped the Whites bounce in style just 72 hours after conceding four goals at Middlesbrough. "Leeds taught us a lesson in everything they did. After their defeat on Saturday, we caught them on a bad night," reflected Spurs joint caretaker manager Doug Livermore. Tottenham would go on to end the season in eighth position while Leeds United' s title defence petered out to a disappointing 17th place finish.
