The night Leeds United came within 90 minutes of a Premier League return

It was a high stakes win which took Leeds United to within 90 minutes of a return to the promised land.

Leeds United reached the Championship play-off final after a night of high drama on the other side of the Pennines in May 2006. Two goals in a five minute second-half burst from Frazer Richardson and Rob Hulse gave the Whites a 3-1 victory on aggregate against a dogged and determined Preston North End team. A power failure struck Deepdale during the half-time interval forcing a delay of 25 minutes.
