The landmark which brought another 'dimension of life back to Leeds'

Startled city centre shoppers took a second look as the covers came off a huge mural high above the busy streets in October 1990.

Cornucopia by artist Graeme Wilson opposite the Corn Exchange depicts the city's illustrious trading past.

Unveiling the finished 32ft high mural which had been commissioned by Speciality Shops in 1989 the former director of Leeds Polytechnic Doc Patrick Nuttgens said the piece "brought another dimension of life back to Leeds."

The painting was integrated into the architecture of the building using the 'Keim' system of silicate paints.

Cornucopia was awarded the Leeds Award for Architecture and the Environment.
