The Elland Road jibe that would come back to haunt PNE

It was a comment which would come back to haunt Preston North End manager Billy Davies as he left Elland Road.

"Job done" he told the media after watching his Preston North End side draw 1-1 in the Championship play-off semi-final first leg under floodlights in May 2006. The Lilywhites came into the game as the team in form after winning five of their last six games of the regular season - including a final day win over Leeds - while the Whites had managed just one victory in the same period. But Kevin Blackwell's side were boosted by the support of their biggest crowd since their relegation from the Premiership in 2004 - and kick-off had to be delayed by 15 minutes to allow all of the 35,239 fans into Elland Road. Striker David Nugent had put Preston ahead before a superb free kick from Eddie Lewis helped Leeds fight back to earn a draw. Just 72 hours later the Whites won at Deepdale to silence their critics.
