Leeds United took a giant stride towards a Champions League slot in April 2001 with a crucial victory against Liverpool at Anfield. David O'Leary's side moved into third place with an impressive display. Goals from Lee Bowyer and Rio Ferdinand proved the difference from a clash in which Steven Gerrard scored his side's 100th goal of the season before seeing red. Leeds finished the season in fourth position, just a point behind Liverpool, with both clubs qualifying for Europe's elite competition.
