The day Leeds United stuffed the Owls of Hillsborough

It was a derby win which saw Leeds United push their Yorkshire neighbours ever closer to the Premier League trapdoor.

The 3-0 victory at Hillsborough in April 2000 brought to an end an eight match run without a win for the Whites and makes the Owls' protracted struggle for Premiership survival all but mathematically over. It took just 40 seconds for David Hopkin to fire the visitors ahead, with an inspired goal apiece for Michael Bridges and Harry Kewell after the interval to finish the cull. Leeds finished the season in third place behind Arsenal and runaway champions Manchester United. Wednesday were relegated, sandwiched in between Wimbledon and bottom of the league Watford.
