Remembering Leeds - Trams in City Square during the 1950s

This photo captures a snapshot of public transport in Leeds city centre during the mid-1950s.

The image was taken at City Square in July 1956 and showcases a mode of transport nearing the end of its shelf life.

Tram no 561 is on route 18 to Cross Gates with tram on route 16 to New Inn Wortley also visible.

It was just three years before the end an era with the last tram to run in Leeds in November 1959 signalling the end of 88 years of transport history across the city.
