Rare archive footage of Leeds’s own fancy dress world champion
He was the retired millworker living a quiet life in the back streets of Leeds.
But when Watson Thompson went into the attic of his home he was transformed and ready to take on any contenders in which used to be the cut and thrust business of fancy dress.
The 71-year-old has been a range of characters down the years from Neptune and Robinson Crusoe to Viking warrior and his legendary Indian trapper.
Enjoy this rare footage from the BBC archive which was first broadcast on news and current affairs television programme Nationwide in early January 1973.
