Memories of shopping in Crossgates during 1960s and 1970s

These photos are sure to being back memories for a generation of shoppers in Crossgates.

The images, plucked from the YEP archive, showcase the shops and retailers all competing for the hard earned cash of residents during the 1960s and 1970s. The demolition of Gas holder Number Two at the Cross Gates Gasworks made way for a shopping centre in LS15 as some felt that the town was badly lacking in amenities.The Arndale Centre opened in September 1967 and was the first indoor "American-style" shopping mall in England.
