Leeds United's historic 3-0 Champions League quarter-final first leg win against Deportivo La Coruna in April 2001 will be remembered by a generation of supporters as a complete performance from a team at the peak of its powers. Far from being humbled by comments from the Deportivo camp that Leeds were the competition's weakest link, the jibe spurred them into their best European performance. Goals from Ian Harte, Alan Smith and Rio Ferdinand prompted chants of 'three nil to the weakest link' as the Whites intimidated the Spanish champions into submission. The performance from captain-for-the-night Rio Ferdinand was dubbed 'sensational' and earned the defender a 10/10 rating from the YEP's Phil Hay.
