This is one of the many cinemas Leeds has loved and lost down the decades.

This undated photo shows the entrance to the 290 seater News Theatre which was opened in August 1938 and was located in the Queens Hotel building on City Square.

The special opening programme included 'New Audio Scopics - this years screen thrill'. There were showings of Golf Mistakes, Popeye, Radio Parade and regular Tatler exclusive newsreel showings between 12pm and 11pm.

Admission prices were 1/- (5p) and 6d (2.5p).

The News Theatre became The Classic on September 1966, then changed its name to the Tatler Film Club in February 1969 before reverting to The Classic by July 1979. It then became a nightclub.
