Leeds United's 1980/81 season - A credible finish after a change of manager

It was the season which witnessed a managerial change after a woeful start to the campaign.

Jimmy Adamson gambled on buying Alex Sabella from Sheffield United for £400,000 in an effort to please the Elland Road faithful with the Argentinean's ball skills and ability to provide a killer pass for the strikers to latch on to. But after a terrible start - one win in six league games and a League Cup exit - he was replaced by club legend Allan Clarke. 'Sniffer' managed to steady the ship with the Whites finishing credible ninth in large part to nine wins and three draws from the final 16 games. The season also sadly featured a career ending injury to Paul Madeley while on a more positive note Clarke converted Eddie Gray to left-back, which many fans believe prolonged his playing career. Enjoy these photos charting the ups and downs of the season. READ MORE: Memories of Leeds United's 1982/83 season
