Leeds United fans memories of 'Big Jack' - a legend of the beautiful game

Jack Charlton passed away on Friday (July 10) aged 85 following a long-term illness.

The former centre-back spent his entire career with Leeds and made a club record 773 appearances between 1953 and 1973, helping the Whites win a First Division title, a Second Division title, two Inter-Cities Fairs Cups, an FA Cup, a League Cup and a Charity Shield.

Charlton, who made 35 appearances for his country, also played every match as England won the 1966 World Cup.

Following his playing career, Charlton went into management, with spells in charge of Middlesbrough, Sheffield Wednesday, Newcastle United and the Republic of Ireland

Fans have been remembering 'Big Jack' a player who joined Leeds United at 15 and was 38 when he left.

Patricia Ball - "So very sad at this news. Condolences to all the family, and to Leeds United and all the fans. Loved the man. R.I.P. Big Jack."

Colin Wheat - "God bless you old boy and thanks for what you did for for the game."

Phil Goulthorp - "RIP Big Jack. I had the pleasure of seeing you play for Leeds. You were a giant."

Dave Luke - "So sad, the third of our great players taken this year. RIP Jack, a true legend of Leeds United and England."
