And for the rest watching on television and listening on the radio the iconic commentary from the late, great David Coleman - 'Clarke... one-nil!' - still sends shivers down the spine.

Sniffer's header after 53 minutes was enough to secure Leeds United's first, and only, FA Cup final win in their illustrious history.

The jubilation at full-time was tempered by a last-minute injury to Mick Jones, who dislocated his elbow and had to be helped up the steps by Norman Hunter to receive his winners' medal. Your YEP asked fans to share memories from the Centenary Cup Final.

Responses via facebook included:

Gary Bullock - The first time I’d ever been to London ( I was 13) and when I walked out into the old Wembley Stadium I was so overcome with the size and noise. I will remember it until I die. As a young boy I remembered bitter disappointments so for Leeds to win at Wembley and me to be there was fantastic. It was an honour and a privilege to see that great team win the centenary cup final with my old man and one of the best moments in my life.

Andy Knowles - My best childhood memory, even better than getting my Raleigh Chopper for Christmas!

Kevin Mchale - My wife who was 6 at the time was watching it sat on her dad's lap and when Leeds scored he threw her over the back of the chair (by accident).

Joe Morrison - David Coleman, when Clarke scored, casually saying 'One nil'

Mick Dennison - Sat on the floor as an eight year old going mental as the goal went in (went to my first game that year).

Gillian Johnson - Couldn't get a ticket even though we'd gone home and away all season and collected the vouchers to apply for a ticket so we decorated the whole room with banners and scarves I was 14.

Kath Graham - Was at Wembley with my hubby. The atmosphere was electric. but sad that mick Jones got injured he was in agony

Sue Millward - I was sat on settee with my scarf strewn all across the back of it . I remember being very happy that David Harvey was playing in goal . And was jumping and singing like a good en when we won . Was concerned about Mick Jones though.

Paul Henryk Kuc - I was just 6. I can remember Arsenal winning the cup the year before and asked my Dad who was going to win. He was right, and that's the reason I became a Leeds fan.

Tony Smidowicz - Was lucky enough to be at the game. I was 16. Unforgettable experience.

Neil Brosgill - Went out to a club after the game and Allan Clarke came in. Can’t for the life of me remember where! Probably very drunk.

Stuart Matthews - I was just 12. Watched the first half then did my Saturday paper round at half time. 85 papers delivered in 13 minutes and back in front of the TV for the second half. Ran like the wind.

Andy Tyson - Went to watch it at my gran's cos she had a colour TV. She greeted me at the door with ear muffs on. She knew how loud I could get watching Leeds... I was 8 at the time!

Mick Hardaker - I was 15 and a fully committed Leeds fan for the previous five seasons and was so unbelievable that after so many near misses in various cup competitions we went on the win this one. Watched it at my mates house on a big colour TV (26 inch). Brilliant day.

And responses via Twitter included:

Matthew Burch (@matthewrburch) - Yep, I was there. Turnstile C, entrance 17. Best moment, obviously, was Sniffers goal, I was right in line with his header so I knew it was in from the moment he headed it. I travelled by Wallace Arnold coach. Got back home just before the end of match of the day.

Graham noble (@Grahamnoble12) - Went to every round. Mum came home to tell me someone else got my ticket for the final.

David Newton (@DavidNe91378182) - It was my 9th birthday, I was sat at grandad's in a bobble hat & scarf and a rattle. Happy memories.
