We visited the workshop of sculptor Graham Ibbeson who was creating a statue of city war hero Arthur Aaron. To mark the new Millennium, Leeds Civic Trust organised a public vote to choose a statue to mark the occasion, and to publicise the city's past heroes and heroines. The Royal Airforce pilot won the vote, with Don Revie beating Joshua Tetley and Frankie Vaughan as runner-up. The five-metre bronze sculpture would be sited on Eastgate roundabout in the city centre where it remains today. Elsewhere a tireless Leeds charity worker was celebrating a milestone birthday and a lost and found landmark was returned to its rightful home.
