If you were sentimentalist and a pipe smoker, there was hope for you thanks to tobacconist Jack Beasley pictured at his shop on Hunslet Road in March 1975.

He was a specialist, selling at least 38 of his own pipe mixes, a vast selection of Beasley pipes as well as other makes and tobacco for the "roll your own" man.

Mr. Beasley, who drew on 200 years of knowledge gleaned by the family business in Reading, would mix the smoker's preferences with tobaccos he has named after towns in the area.
