Gordon McQueen - Photo memories of a Leeds United defensive stalwart

He was the tough-tackling defender who played his part in the all-conquering Leeds United side of the 1970s.

Gordon McQueen was a no-nonsense lynchpin whose defensive pairing with Norman Hunter proved crucial as Revie's boys notched up a 29 match unbeaten run on the way to the First Division title in 1973/74. He also excelled at the back the following season as he helped Leeds United reach the 1975 European Cup Final against Bayern Munich in Paris. It was a game he was suspended for after being sent off in the semi-final against Barcelona. His six years with the Whites ended in controversy when he moved across the Pennines to arch rivals Manchester United for £500,000 in February 1978.
