They provide a fascinating insight into a life at a community library in Leeds during the 1970s. The images were all taken inside Calverley County Library on Thornhill Street when its first opened in the west Leeds village back in September 1973. The purpose-built library replaced the previous one which was housed inside the Mechanics Institute also on Thornhill Street. They are published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service. They also run heritage blog The Secret Library Leeds, which provides a behind the scenes look at the Central Library and highlights from its special collections, including rare books hidden away in the stacks.
