Dating in Leeds - The night the city's 'desperate and dateless' came out to play

It was the night desperate and dateless singletons converged on Leeds for partying and match-making.

These photos turned back the clock to 2003 to when the Desperate and Dateless Ball, an annual event organised as a fundraiser by the British Red Cross, drew hundreds to the Blank Canvas at Granary Wharf in Leeds. And with everyone there a self-confessed desperate and dateless singleton, a fun night was on the cards from the start. Enjoy these photos - spotted anyone you know? The event was kicked off by comperes for the night, television personalities Josie D'Arby and Joe Mace.
The pair got three couples up on stage to see if love would be in the air.

After the six people were matched up, they were given 45 minutes to find out all they could about their potential love matches.
Paul Bradley and Helen McBirnie won the Mr and Mrs style competition.
