Changing Leeds - Inside St George's Crypt down the decades

It has provided a lifeline and sanctuary for generations of homeless and vulnerable people in Leeds down the years.

Vicar Rev Don Robbins founded St George's Crypt in 1930 to combat increasing homelessness in Leeds. It reportedly provided shelter for 70,000 men over the course of five years and fed 500 men in a day. The crypt was launched with the mission statement ' to meet the need in the city of Leeds.' As it celebrates its 90th birthday it is that vision that remains: supporting the city's homeless and vulnerable. These photos take you inside the Crypt down the decades to showcase the help and support the charity has provided. LOVE LEEDS? LOVE NOSTALGIA? Join Leeds Retro on facebook
