'Butch and mates' - Do you remember these Leeds children?

Do you recognise the children featured on this evocative photo of growing up in Leeds?

The photo is entitled "Butch and Mates", and shows a group of five children of varying ages pictured as they play out on an area of cleared land in Leeds.

It dates back to 1970 and was taken in front of rows of terraced houses located in Servia Hill, Woodhouse.

They had lit a small 'camp fire' which is blazing away behind them.

The image is published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service. They also run heritage blog The Secret Library Leeds, which provides a behind the scenes look at the Central Library and highlights from its special collections, including rare books hidden away in the stacks.
