Carstuff - pictured in July 1983 - boasted more than 5,000 separate items in stock. You could find it on Boar Lane between C&A and the Bond Street Shopping Centre.

John Collier was the place to go on Briggate for those looking to get suited and booted. Pictured in March 1982.

There were a multitude of gadgets and ideas available from The Cook Shop on Briggate pictured in May 1988.
23. Thumpers
Thumpers in the Market Street Arcade offered shoppers a range of gifts ranging from paintings and jewellery to paperweights and cuddly toys.
